The cryptocurrency project Ellipsis Finance was launched last year to allow investors to securely trade tokens on the Binance smart chain with minimal slippage. It recently started implementing a new upgrade to continue achieving this goal. However, this second version of the platform includes its cryptocurrency EPS, which migrates to a new digital currency called EPX. With both EPS and EPX largely down, what could happen to the EPS token? And what does this mean for EPS price forecasts?

What is (EPS)?

Ellipsis Finance originated from the Curve Finance protocol. The new project allows users to exchange coins on the Binance smart chain, which it claims is secure and has little slippage. This ecosystem uses a pool system similar to PancakeSwap and Uniswap. Investors can share tokens in these pools, which provides liquidity for users who want to exchange their tokens.

EPS token

One of the cryptocurrencies featured in Ellipsis Finance is the EPS token. The main use of its native token is for investors to share it and receive fees from the exchange. It can also be used when an investor locks tokens in liquidity pools, making them eligible for a share of the profits in the EPS token.

Ellipsis finances this by charging a transaction fee every time a user exchanges one cryptocurrency for another. These fees are split in half between liquidity providers and EPS shareholders. However, the drawback is that the fresh EPS awarded to investors has a 90-day period. If the recipients want to withdraw the tokens before the end of this period, they will be charged a 50% early withdrawal penalty.

EPS price history

The Ellipsis exchange platform and its token saw impressive initial growth after launching in March 2021. At the end of the month, $750 million in capital was locked into the crypto project.

According to CoinMarketCap, EPS saw significant volatility on its first day. The token opened at $19.45, reached a high of $21.29, dropped to a low of $2, and closed at $2.16. Apart from this, the token saw a steady growth as it reached an all-time high of $5.65 on March 30, six days later, and continued this rise into the following month.

  EPS fell to $2.44 by the end of April 2021 and continued to decline until the end of the year. The growth of the exchange platform eventually fell victim to the same bearish pattern. By the end of 2021, TVL fluctuated between $500 and $600 million.

EPS hit a low of $0.09438 on May 13, 2022. This came after the crypto crash sent a shock wave into the decentralized finance (DeFi) market.

New upgrade

Ellipsis Finance announced in April 2022 that it is upgrading to version 2.0 of the platform. Along with this update, news of a new token called EPX was released. It is designed as an improved version of EPS.

New features for EPX are unveiled along with existing functionality of the original EPS token. New token holders can have a greater say in the Ellipsis Finance ecosystem. For example, they are rewarded for meter voting, where holders determine token rewards for each liquidity pool.

EPS holders were able to transfer their tokens to the new EPX upgrade on May 23rd. EPS has largely declined in the remainder of 2022, and as of July 26, 2022, EPS is trading at $0.1826.

EPX hit an all-time low of $0.0004593 on June 18, but is currently trading at $0.0005358. (only 16% compared to the lowest time in history)

EPS price prediction

The long-term downtrend experienced by the exchange token has led to some pessimistic EPS price forecasts. WalletInvestor calls it a “bad” one-year investment, with the token expected to drop to $0.01 in a year. The Ellipsis price forecast for 2025 says it will go even lower to $0.009.

Ellipsis fees and safety 

A small fee of 0.04% is charged for each transaction on the platform. Half of this fee is divided equally among all liquidity providers as a bonus. 

In addition, Ellipsis smart contracts on the Binance Smart Chain use a secure multi-sign mechanism.

EPS trading method
